There were several things I had to do in order to prepare myself for teaching the fourth graders. The first thing I had to do was attend all of the BioSite meetings. Here, I would get teaching advice and materials from Birit, and do some of the activities that the fourth graders would be doing. She taught us some good ways to keep the fourth graders engaged, such as asking open-ended questions and maximising interactive activities. We also got to see each of the stations the fourth graders would be doing, which included the worms station, water station, and flower dissections station. During each meeting, me and my team created a lesson plan for the fourth graders. This was a collaborative process, where we determined who would be teaching what and how we would end up teaching it. Me and Jonathan ended up teaching the pollinators portion and card activity, while Haley and Krishna ended up teaching the flower examination activity. Finally, it was time to put our plans into action. When the fourth graders arrived, it meant that we had to stay calm, reasonable, and professional. I would say that we remained all of those things for the entire BioSITE Round 2.
