Amanda's BioSite Blog Round 2 #2

Teaching and Overall Thoughts
The first day for biosite, i believe we were a bit nervous because theres always the fears of the crazy kids and the judgemental parents. My group and I chose a big spot to have the 4th graders at. When the kids arrived, i do belive we kinda improvised and winged it a bit. We would introduce oursleves and say a fun fact and then have the kids do the same with the hacky sack. Tianna would start out with asking the kids about what they know about worms and how the feel about them as well. She would after explain how they are impotat because they produce compost. She did a great job and she knew what she was saying and doing. I printed out some sheets of worm parts and discribed what they are to the 4th graders to learn about them more and be able to identify the worms later. The first day, Andreas would tell the facts, but when he left to help another group, Santigo took over and they both did well. We then passed out the traws with sheets of moist paper and put down the worms on the traws to have the kids examine. We would pass around every once a while to talk to the kids and examine with them. Aswell us teachers had a spray bottle of water to spraw the worms to be moist. I gave the kids rules that they had to be gentle, keep the worms above or on the pan, and you must have your gloves on. We did have those kids that would be too crazy and not want wear their gloves and the kids that didnt want to touch them. Overall, all the kids seemed excited to play with the worms. If there was time left, we would play games after which is always fun. To conclude, i had an amazing time teaching and also learing these two rounds of Biosites.
