BioSITE is an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who gets the opportunity. Everything about BioSITE was full of learning and enrichment for everyone involved. Our team spent every Tuesday tutorial in Mr. Bursch’s class for about a month! I’m so grateful for our BioSITE teacher Birit. She taught us so much in a short period of time and we really needed it because we were going to be in charge of keeping 4th graders learning and interested for 2 hours! In order to help us prepare Birit set up a few labs and some collaboration days to participate in during tutorial. We were given examples of some fun ways to make sure the kids were engaged during our teaching time and also learned new techniques to help them learn more efficiently. Pretty soon we chose our topics. Out of compost, chickens, and seeds, our group chose chickens. We needed to collaborate with the other groups that also chose chickens so that we could get the timing down. After a few calculations we were able to figure out who was going to do what and when, so that we could create our lesson plans. This part was really exciting because we got to brainstorm about making up fun games. Once we had some ideas we chose the ones that wkould make the most sense in the time we had. Then we just had to wait for the day to arrive!
