Jessica Serrano Blog Post #2

After getting the chance to work with the fourth graders, I learned a lot of new skills.
I learned how to talk to children and be more understanding. Sometimes I would speak
too fast or my sense of vocabulary was one  that they didn’t know. So I would remind
myself to slow down or to ask them questions just to make sure that they were
understanding what I was saying. The first round of teaching them went fine, I made sure
to ask more questions and to try and connect with them.However I just needed to talk
slower and be less nervous. My teammates kept telling me  to act more natural and that
after all this was supposed to be a fun project. Then the next couple of rounds went better.
I started becoming less nervous as I continued to teach. The kids were very engaged in
the activity and were very easy to handle. This project helped improve my social skills
very people younger than me. It also helped me create a lesson plan which is a helpful
skill to have.  This has been one of my favorite service projects this year . Overall this
was a great experiment and I would love to do it again, if I get the chance to.
