Biosite Post #1
This semester, I decided to participate in BioSite again because it was such a fun experience last time. To prepare for this, we came to tutorial every Tuesday where we learned about how to interact with little fourth graders. The first day, we started off by observing some worms since it was gonna be one of the stations to teach about. We were told that we had to do a lot of hands on activities to keep the kids entertained. In the next meeting, we learned about watersheds. We got to do this fun activity where we colored a paper where all the watersheds and mountains are located. Then, we sprayed water on it and we got to see how the landmarks moved around. The next time, we learned about flowers and then we chose the station that we wanted to teach at. My group and I chose to teach at the flower station. We had to form into groups of three so my group members were Natalia Hammond and Jayden O'Connor. We had to make a lesson plan that had to be at least 25 minutes long. This was a challenge, but we had a lot of activities for our kids to do. We decided to start off with a little name game to get everyone comfortable. We also wanted to include a lot of questions that would get the kids thinking. We made a poster of a flower diagram and made cards with all the flower parts so that the kids would get to label it. Then, we had pictures of pollinators such as bees, butterflies, bats, etc to show the kids. It was hard, but we finally had created a long enough lesson plan for the fourth graders.
