To prepare for BioSITE, we had to go through several days worth of training. During the tutorial meetings, we participated in multiple different labs and activities. For example, the first day of training we looked at compost and worms through a magnifying glass. The second day we did a flower dissection, where we had to take apart different parts of the plant and place them under the microscope. The final day of conducting activities was the watershed activity. My group knew that we wanted to teach this topic to the fourth graders because the activity was very intriguing and we are all very passionate about the quality of earth's water and preserving what we have remaining. For the final few training days, we got into our groups and discussed what we wanted to include in our lesson plan. We made sure to brush up on the definition of a watershed, the importance of it, and how the activities worked. We made sure that our lesson plan would be entertaining enough to keep the fourth graders interested while also teaching them about the importance of the local watershed. When the time came to teach, we were all very excited to watch our hard work unfold.
