Teaching- Marieke

The first day of teaching was extremely exciting! We had some really great groups of fourth graders, although we did have some minor disagreements. As the lessons went on we were able to loosen up a little bit and ended up having a lot of fun! The lesson was very engaging and we could keep the fourth graders engaged! After we were able to talk about what we felt went good and bad, and tweaked our lessons accordingly.

One of the things we talked about was splitting up the work more evenly amongst ourselves. As a person who tends to take over, I was more conscious about it the second day and the lesson ran more smoothly. Our groups had more behavioral problems, but thanks to our strong team, we were able to combat them quite easily. One of the things that stood out to me was a very very shy girl in one of our groups who did not want to talk. I sat with her one on one for just a little bit during the lesson and was able to get a single word out of her, which was probably my proudest moment from the entire experience.

I would definetely do biosite again if I had the chance. Interacting with both my classmates and the fourth graders have strengthened my leadership and communication skills greatly, along with it being loads of fun! (Fourth graders can say some funny things!)
