Preparation and Teaching -Scott

Preparation:

Before we started even thinking about preparing what we where going to teach we needed to understand the topic we where going to teach. Like background information and fun facts about watersheds. In the preparation of this experience my group and I understood what we need to set up. We had a list of what we wanted to do and how. Our group decided to create a poster of a watershed to get the children to understand the parts of a watershed. Also, to understand that they are living in an amazing watershed. Our group also decided to go with the activity demonstrated. We knew we wanted the kids to make connections to what they have learned and what they have seen in watersheds. So, we wanted to have a long discussion about that. which was going to lead us into the conclusion of the teaching window. We decided to close out the teaching we where going to teach the children how a bowl of soup is a great comparison to a watershed.

Teaching:

When my group was teaching it didn't take long for us to get comfortable with the group of kids. We made sure the kids knew our names and we knew their's. We started with the demonstration about the parts of the watershed. We had the kids label a poster and then talk about the parts. We next started the activity which was the paper demo and the kids seemed to really enjoy the hands on work and understood what they where doing. The kids wanted to talk about what they have seen around them that they learned about today. So we contained talking about that we insured that every kid that wanted to talk could. We also encouraged the ones that didn't want to talk to step out of their comfort sone and respond to the question. We ended with a recap about what we had learned and how it is important to understand watersheds. That it is important to teach other people other how amazing and helpful they are and that we need to protect it because we only have one and that is the one we are living in.
