For WGHS BioSITE, I chose to teach the flower dissection with my team of Luis, Destiny, and Angelo. We created a lesson plan with each of us leading a certain activity that as all part of the goal to educate and inform Booksin 4th graders about flowers and pollination. Our lesson plan went like this: I would start, with an introduction to the team and the anatomy of a flower, then Luis would talk about pollinators and pollination, then Angelo would lead the dissection, and finally, Destiny would conclude all of the discoveries of the day. We practiced this plan many times, with many different people, with varying results. To set up our activity, we gathered flowers from around the school and WGHS GOLD garden, plugged in the microscopes, and set up the trays with tweezers and magnifying glasses. It was a pretty easy preparation compared to the last time I did bioSITE, although compost was a fairly easy subject to plan as well.
