When I first learned about Biosite I was skeptical about how it would result. I didn’t think that I was capable of maintaining a 4th grader's attention yet alone six 4th grader's attention. Despite that though, I thought it was an interesting concept so I signed up for it. At the first meeting I was confused when I was given a brussel sprout and a pair of tweezers. I then went and examined my brussel sprout and dissected it. I actually found it surprisingly interesting and was introduced to the concept of inquiry based learning. This became the centerpiece of all of the lessons to come. Through the 5 weeks we learned about seeds, chickens, and compost. I taught compost with Destiny and Helen. Our lesson plant consisted of an icebreaker, examining compost, and the trash timeline activity. This worked well but we realized that we did not plan out our timing. On the 2nd teaching day we made sure that we were better prepared and planned out our time. The second day then worked out great.
