When I first heard about BioSite I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it or not. I felt like it would be hard to teach fourth graders. Nevertheless, I wanted to go out of my comfort zone a bit and challenge myself. The first meeting during tutorial was what fully convinced me this is what I wanted to do for my service learning project. We took apart a brussel sprout that day. Something that seemed to be pointless actually served as a good learning experience. After a few more lessons like the brussel sprout one, we got to pick what topic we would be teaching. I choose compost and teamed up with a couple of people. We spent tutorials planning out our compost lesson for when the awaited fourth graders came. It was interesting trying to find a way to teach a lesson while making it interesting enough for a child to stay focused. You had to get in a different type of mindset and remember when you were that age. I'd say that was the hardest part of the preparation in my opinion. We also went out to the compost to see what we were working with. We built our lesson around those two things. Overall, it was fun and interesting to do.
