Day Two Of Teaching

Very minor things changed on the second day of teaching. Our schedule for the second was almost the same as the one from the first day. I was excited to see the batch of kids because I was more prepared. I knew what I had to do in order to make the experience for everyone the best. So we started off by introducing ourselves saying one thing we liked, and one thing we already knew about composting. We then passed it back around and said any random fact about ourselves. This was so we could consume as much time as we could, and also to let the other groups get their compost first. This was to prevent crowd up around the compost bins. We were then ready to get our compost, and the groups the second time around were smaller which made things easier. What was surprising is that the second day of teaching there was a lot of more things in the compost then there was on the first day. A lot of the kids from the second day found things grubs, pill bugs, white worms, millipedes, and centipedes. On the first day the kids would only find pill bugs, and if they were lucky a worm cocoon. This helped the activity a lot because it made it easier to keep the kids interested, and it made it easier to talk to them since they were so excited. This time around we let the kids compost longer than we did on the first day. This was so that  we didn't have any awkward time at the end of the lesson. We then did the trash timeline, which turned out better than it did on the first day. We were more able to ask the kids questions on things they found surprising. Then it was time to share things we learned that day. Me and Edward were more able to ask more questions this time around because the kids were more nicer and more willing the second day. Then after the question activity we let the kids write on their paper one thing they learned using the wall that was behind them. We then said goodbye, and thanked the kids for coming. Overall, I really enjoyed the second day way more than the first. It was more relaxing and fun. We also got to interact with the kids way more because they were so awesome. I am really excited for the second round of BioSITE when it comes back in the Spring!
